This view is from a dock on chilmark pond. I got out there sometimes with friends to surf. The Atlantic is on the other side of the dunes seen in the background. We paddle across about 200 yards, walk over the dunes and there it is, the great expanse of the ocean. And since the only way to walk or drive their is across private property, there are usually very few people there. It’s secluded. We call it “church”, because it can be such a spiritual experience to head out there in the early morning. The only down side is my crippling fear of “creatures of the deep”. So, whenever a seal pops it’s huge, dog-like head out of the water about 10 feet from my board, I just about shit my wetsuit, and have to meditate to keep my calm. Otherwise, it’s a lovely experience.
